Great Salt Bay School is looking for a dedicated and flexible 100% Virtual Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2026-27 school year ONLY. Teach remotely from anywhere while making a direct impact on our students!
About the Role:
This full-time virtual position (open to considering strong part-time applicants) involves delivering instruction to a diverse group of students mainly in grades Pre-K through 6. While working remotely, you will collaborate with on-site staff to support students in inclusive and special education settings. Students are in the building between 8:00 AM and 2:45 PM EST. The candidate must have the ability to attend IEP meetings (up to approximately 4 per week) generally held before or after school at 7:30 AM or 2:45 PM.
Key Details:
Collaborative Teamwork: To drive student achievement, you will work closely with our long-term substitute teacher, special and general educators, and paraprofessionals, as well as consult with the school's Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) when appropriate.
Virtual SDI & Planning: Requires extensive experience delivering high-quality Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) and planning for academic growth, functional behaviors, and executive functioning skills.
Rapport & Engagement: Requires creative ideas and strategies to effectively build rapport and encourage active student participation in a virtual learning environment.
Compliance & Documentation: Requires strong expertise in special education compliance, paperwork, and writing IEPs strictly aligned with Maine Special Education Regulations (MUSER).
COMPENSATION & ATTRACTIVE BENEFITS
- Salary Range: $53,543 – $88,238 annually (based on experience, degree lane, and placement on the 185-day teacher salary schedule).
- Special Education Staff Stipend: Eligible for up to $6,000 annually ($125 per point system earned for evaluations, direct therapy services, and IEP meeting participation).
- Comprehensive Health Coverage: District pays 99% of Single coverage, 90% of Adult/Children coverage, and 85% of Family/2-Adult coverage under MEA Benefits Trust plans.
- Generous Paid Time Off:
15 paid sick days per year (accumulative up to 120 days).
40 hours of paid employee leave per year for personal use/vacation
Paid professional days and bereavement days
- Professional Development & Tuition Reimbursement: 100% tuition reimbursement for up to 9 graduate credit hours per year at University of Maine rates, with 50% course prepayment available.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must hold (or be eligible for) Maine Department of Education Special Education Certification (282 K-6 or 282 Pre-K–6 Teacher of Students with Disabilities). Candidates with a 282 K-6 endorsement must be willing to accept the Maine DOE's conversion to the Pre-K to 6th grade 282 certification. Conditional certification may be considered. Demonstrated expertise in virtual instruction, SDI design, executive functioning support, and Maine SPED compliance is required.
